Why some people talk at meetings
Meetings are very interesting. It brings together very interesting characters on board to analyze issues. Some people are undoubtedly very talented at contributing on how to solve “the problem” at hand while others are what are thought as “how they actually ended up here”.
To show that they are the guru of that particular subject
Sure some people are really good in tackling certain issues but seriously they sometimes talk just to spite others that they know a how to deal with a particular subject. They are really talkie but sometimes tend to bore. They could easily make you feel less of yourself giving you serious in-depth knowledge about the whole situation at and but sometimes they lead everyone astray by digressing from the main topic. Plus they prattle like nobody’s business.
To prove that they are also contributing at the meeting
For others it sends the message across other members that they are also contributing in the meeting. Often they people talk to second motions they don’t even understand themselves. Dear oh dear. At least in the end other members will view them as real time contributors.
To really broach on the issues at hand with solutions
Others do an in-depth analysis on the issue at hand and broach the subject very well in a way that will bring results. Such people come with concurrent solutions. They are really talkie but do not like to waste time especially when the answers they seek from the committee is not forth coming.
Just to argue and waste time
Of course, some members go to just to argue unnecessarily on factless or baseless issues and eventually digress from the main topic. They do not do any research at all on issues at hand but rely on other members of the association to give them a fair idea of what they think about the whole situation. Again they are often used by schemers to slow down progress especially when it comes to making critical decisions to the benefit or detriment of the organization.
Anyway where do you fall?
